Reading the Play

In Geraldton, Western Australia, HubCap is making a difference for local men. Their new Reading the Play initiative helps men to build on their reading and writing skills. With a ‘no tests, no classroom, no whiteboards’ promise, Reading the Play provides one-on-one reading and writing support for men who have complex and often traumatic experiences with learning environments, and therefore feel more comfortable in a relaxed learning environment.

With the support of the Great Northern Football League, HubCap provides support far and wide for men in the community who may battle with low self-esteem, shyness, and shame.

The local footy is an excellent place for HubCap to set up shop, promoting their various literacy programs in a place where a lot of local men tend to get together and congregate on weekends.

HubCap provides a welcoming physical space, food, and transport for men engaging with the program.
