Crystal Reuter – Queensland
Crystal – part of the Kawana Read and Write for Life Class on the Sunshine Coast for over 12 years – consistently demonstrates enthusiasm, commitment and a willingness to explore new learning topics. She regularly writes reviews and recounts of her travels to Brisbane and her love for the mighty Broncos rugby league team. She is currently completing an Adult Learners Week project with the theme of navigation!
Cystal shows great persistence when facing challenges and disappointments and truly epitomises the ideal life-long learner. Her effort to attend the class each week should be applauded as she has to travel over 30 minutes each way by public transport. Crystal thinks quickly on her feet and her knowledge about practical and function literacy is outstanding. She inspires others to keep going and learn more.
Crystal works part-time in retail and still manages to fit adult education into her life. Attending class has had a significant impact on her life. It has not only provided her the opportunity to strengthen her literacy and communication skills, which are highly valued in retail work, but has also allowed her to create strong social connections in the class community. She also volunteers at Lifeline and has been part of the SES in past years.
Crystal has dreams of working in hospitality. Should she be awarded a scholarship, she would put the money towards a course in hospitality such as a Cert III.
