Georgie Potter – New South Wales

Georgie connected with TAFE NSW’s Career Pathways program after finding that the traditional high school environment was not meeting her learning needs.

Once she commenced the course, Georgie felt that she had finally found an educational setting that suited her. Adult learning, she found, was an environment where learners chose to be there, were focused on their goals, and were motivated to learn. The program provided a pathway for her to complete her Year 10 qualification.

Georgie is an outstanding adult learner because she demonstrates many of the key characteristics of successful adult learning: motivation, self-direction, goal orientation and persistence. Recognising that the traditional school environment was not helping her achieve her potential, she took control of her own learning journey and sought an alternative pathway that better suited her needs.

After completing her Year 10 studies, Georgie moved on to a Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing) and secured work in a local nursing home. She has since broadened her experience by working at other care facilities.

Georgie credits the skills and knowledge gained through TAFE with helping her build a successful future doing work she genuinely loves and values.
